INTRODUCTION

Nationwide Non-Profit Ensuring Judges Have Parental Experience Before Telling Parents What To Do

The penstroke of a judge often decides our children’s lives. This can be a highly emotion experience, especially in high-conflict situations. Often, we blame parents for letting a case get this far – so far that a judge must decide. That’s one of the designs of the system, further encouraging settlement. Some judges have no idea what it feels like to be a parent. Others have no interest in being a parent.

CHILDREN OF THE COURT is a nationwide non-profit organization, founded as a UCLA student project, and funded by court order, that seeks to influence courts to assign cases involving parental rights to judges with parental experience or who are actively part of the foster community.
