Erica Chavin

Founding Director

Erica Chavin is no stranger to the drama and conflict in a family law proceeding. She brings her top-shelf non-profit experience to ChildrenOfTheCourt. She is not only a Founding Director, she joined the other two founders (Weinhaus and Lee) in the organization’s first Outreach Meeting,

Erica has spent majority of her career in the non-profit industry and is currently the Director of Finance and Operations for The Scintillon Institute. Previously, she was the Director of Finance for Catalyst Global, and also employed at La Jolla Institute for Allergy & Immunology, The Scripps Research Institute, and Merrill Lynch.

Erica has been recognized for strong analytical and problem-­solving skills, implementing robust solution-­based strategies, improving processes, and
supporting business operations. She is a consensus-­driven communicator with a keen ability to rapidly adapt to new technologies, liaise across various business units, and promote organizational success.

Erica has a Bachelor of Science degree in Economics from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo and is an Enrolled Agent.

Elyana Lee

Founding Operations Manager

Elyana Lee is an aspiring law student, who actively participated in the Founding of Children of the Court since January 2023 when she was a student in UCLA’s Social Entrepreneurship course. Elyana, along with her fellow students, directed the creation of the organization, provided feedback, and assessed its viability.

A year later, after Judge Wilson’s order (see full order on the Funded By page) authorized our funding (and Coach prohibited from receiving it!), Elyana is our first Operations Manager.

Elyana is responsible for managing the court-ordered budget, accepting parent pledges, and communicating with Court administrators our mission to advocate for intelligent case assigning when it comes to children.

Elyana currently works at a family law practice and has significant social media experience.

Adam Roth

Adam Roth

Director

Adam Roth has served on the Board of Directors of Children of the Court since April 2025. He has direct experience with family law and contested child custody proceedings, currently sharing joint custody of his two minor children. He is very involved with his childrens’ activities, including coaching sports teams and attending school and extracurricular events.

 

Mr. Roth has been in the finance industry for more than 20 years, advising startups and growth companies and assisting them in obtaining capital. He was previously a member of the Board of Directors of San Diego Sports Innovators.

 

Adam assists the Children of the Court founders in establishing strategic direction for the organization. He also provides a voice of experience in family court proceedings and judicial decisions relating to minor children.

 

Adam has a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Colorado, Boulder, where he was a lacrosse team member.

 

Edward "Coach" Weinhaus, Esq.

Founder

Coach financed the entirety of the litigation that led to the formation of Children of the Court. He developed the concept as part of a class project when he taught Social Entrepreneurship at UCLA. Based on student feedback and enthusiasm, he ensured Children of the Court received funding through an enforceable court order. (Coach insisted that he receive no compensation from the funds designated for Children of the Court.)

Coach is an international judicial reformer, attorney, executive, children’s advocate, and academic. He publishes the country’s largest judicial misconduct news service, AbusiveDiscretion.com (link) and serves as Special Media Advisor to MK Simcha Rothman, Chair of the Knesset’s Constitution, Law, and Justice Committe. His judicial reform writings have been featured in the Wall Street Journal multiple times, American Greatness, and other publications.

Coach currently teaches at Yeshiva University teaching strategy and law. He has taught at UCLA since 2016. He has also served in an adjust capacity at the University of Chicago as an Assistant Professor and at Washington University in St. Louis and Pepperdine University. Three companies Coach has founded have graced the pages of the Wall Street Journal since 2020.

Coach’s work in children’s advocacy began in 2008 during St. Louis’ infamous “Hit a Jew Day.” Coach led a parent’s movement to demand accountability from the school faculty responsible. (link to youtube video). He is an approved Guardian ad Litem (GAL) in St. Louis County and has served as a GAL for religious courts in high-conflict situations. He is the founder of Custody Cartoons, a service allowing cartoons to communicate to children how their lives will be shaped,as a form of solidarity between parents.

Coach has earned five degrees from among the London School of Economics, the University of Chicago, and Washington University School of Law in St. Louis. Coach is a licensed attorney in California, Illinois, and Missouri.
